Worship Team 2010 Annual Report

“People are searching for worship that is authentic, alive, creative, and comprehensible, when they experience the life-changing presence of God in the presence of others.” This quote is from Robert Schnases book, “Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations” which has been the worship team’s study guide this year.

Meeting approximately every other month, the team concerned themselves with Sunday morning worship, Maundy Thursday worship with Prairie Dell and daily prayer life.

Concerning worship, we tweaked the order of the service so that the worshipers might have an uninterrupted encounter with the Spirit.

We encouraged the congregation to be in daily prayer with suggested weekly prayers printed in the bulletin. Those folks in our prayers included not only our church, but extended world wide.

This fall we invited those interested in worship service planning to gather for five weeks to plan Advent and Christmas Eve services. Ten of us gathered to meet the challenge, and we hope our efforts have enriched your Advent season. The planning process has certainly given the group an increased admiration for Kathie and Kristen’s work and guidance.

Don Diestelmeier suggested we appoint an organ oversight representative to see that accurate organ maintenance records are kept. Molly Doolittle has graciously accepted the duty and we thank her.

The team is grateful for all the participating members-liturgists, communion servers, A/V technicians, greeters, ushers, musicians and worshipers—thank you.

Worship Team gets going

The Worship Team is up and running!

The Team is responsible for everything that relates to worship. This includes liturgists and ushers and greeters – not only finding them but also their responsibilities. It includes preparation of communion. It includes music for worship and special music, as well as the choir and the Music Director.

The team has put together usher/greeter responsibilities, which can be found in the back of the sanctuary, and communion preparation and serving instructions, which are in the small kitchen where communion is prepared.

Some of you have been asking for a supplemental hymnal with some of the more contemporary hymns that we use. You have been heard. We have purchased the Renew hymnal, which is now alongside The Presbyterian Hymnal in the pews. These were purchased with Memorial Funds.

Following Don Diestelmeier's excellent program on the organ, a task force has been put together to follow up on the organ, ensuring that appropriate maintenance is done on it. The Worship Team has authorized the re-leathering of the next division of the organ. This will be done with funds previously donated for that purpose and Memorial Funds.

Future activities of the Worship Team will include taking a look at our worship space and assisting in planning worship.

If you would like to be part of this team, or if you have an idea for worship or would like to be liturgist or greet, please see Helen or Fred.
