Discipleship Team 2010 Annual Report

The Discipleship Team is charged with the responsibility of developing ministries outside of the weekly worship to help people grow in faith and in their understanding of and love for God. Our focus is on the small group experiences for our congregation.

Several small groups are already very active, some of which had already begun in each of our two previous churches. The PW, Shawl Ministry, Book Club, Circles, and Men’s Breakfast Group are some of these thriving groups.

This year our team has put an emphasis on developing some other small groups. The adult Sunday School class has been well attended, with several different members acting as facilitators. Rev. Kathie has provided Bible studies and will continue to do so again in the next year. We’re working on developing small study groups and have been searching for a good book to provide the topic for these discussions. And there will be Lenten studies in the spring.

Our team is also responsible for Stewardship. This year we again stressed that giving should be a personal commitment of our love for our church—not simply a burdensome duty and monetary pledge. Bev Kruse planned out our drive and organized a skit and designed posters. We had two from the congregation who gave testimonials about the joy of giving to the church. And we ended with Stewardship Sunday, complete with a potluck and a Freeport Trivia game.

We are hopeful that 2011 will bring us more ideas for helping us all to grow in faith through study and learning together.
